Chicago hospital linked to deaths, medical malpractice

On Behalf of | Oct 28, 2022 | Medical Malpractice

People in Chicago and throughout Illinois go to the hospital for serious medical issues that require immediate treatment. They rightfully assume they will receive the highest quality of care regardless of the medical facility involved. However, one hospital in the Windy City has received numerous complaints from patients and their families regarding the level of care they received. The hospital has faced many malpractice lawsuits as well as federal investigations into its policies and practices.

Troubled hospital

The medical facility in question is Roseland Community Hospital located on Chicago’s South Side. Although the hospital displays several mission statements, such as “We provide the best quality care,” the level of care patients actually receive seems to contradict their stated missions and goals. Since the beginning of 2020, the hospital has received more than a dozen wrongful death claims from surviving family members, claiming their loved ones would still be alive were it not for the negligence and errors of the hospital and its medical staff.

The facility has undergone numerous investigations by the federal government and local news outlets. The hospital has also received many whistleblower complaints and general medical malpractice lawsuits. In all, the hospital has received no less than 72 formal complaints brought by patients and their families.

Dealing with medical malpractice

Everyone deserves quality medical care despite their means or standing in society. Although the hospital serves one of Chicago’s poorest neighborhoods, that does not excuse health care professionals when substandard care is provided. Anyone in Illinois who has suffered because of the careless, negligent or wrongful actions of doctors and hospital staff may have options for legal recourse. Therefore, they will want to consult with an experienced medical malpractice attorney to understand their options.
