Many people throughout Illinois celebrated the recent July Fourth holiday. As part of their celebrations, some people likely consumed alcoholic beverages. Unfortunately, one woman who chose to drive after consuming alcohol apparently caused a crash that injured a young girl.

Accident details and arrest

Around 10:45 a.m. on July 4, a 2010 Chrysler van was traveling north along U.S. 150, and a 2021 Honda SUV was heading south along the same road. For reasons unclear, the Chrysler driver failed to negotiate a curve and the vehicle entered the opposite lane. It then struck the Honda SUV head-on.

The 29-year-old driver of the Chrysler and the 36-year-old woman driving the Honda were both transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. A 14-year-old female passenger in the Honda was airlifted to a medical center for treatment of serious injuries. The 29-year-old woman was arrested on a variety of charges, including aggravated DUI and improper lane usage, among others.

Right to compensation

The 36-year-old injured driver and her 14-year-old passenger have the right to seek compensation for the injuries they suffered as a result of the crash. As such, they will want to work closely with an experienced personal injury attorney in Illinois for assistance. Although the injured parties can bring a civil claim regardless of any criminal charges filed against the other driver, they can use evidence of her arrest for DUI and other moving violations to help strengthen their case.
