Multi-vehicle crash results in fatality and injuries

Drivers in Illinois run the risk of becoming involved in an accident every time they hit the road. One of the most devastating types of vehicle accidents is a head-on collision, and it can cause serious and even fatal injuries to those involved. Such seems to be the case in a recent multi-vehicle accident in St. Clair County that claimed one person’s life and injured two others.

Accident details

Just before 6 a.m. the morning of Sept. 15, two cars were approaching each other on Floraville Road near Loehr Road. For reasons unknown, the vehicles collided head-on, and they were described as a Ford Escape and a Hyundai Elantra. As they were sitting in the roadway, another Ford Escape came along and smashed into the wrecked vehicles.

A 71-year-old woman inside the first Escape was killed at the scene. The driver of the Elantra was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening. The driver of the other Escape received medical treatment at the scene.

Seeking compensation

Authorities are still investigating this crash, and their findings could impact the victim’s ability to obtain financial relief. If the evidence suggests that the Elantra driver was acting negligently or recklessly, the surviving family of the deceased woman and the person injured in the wreck may pursue civil claims against the driver in an attempt at recovering monetary damages. If the elderly woman caused the wreck, her estate could be named in personal injury claims from the injured parties. In any event, affected parties will want to consult with an experienced personal injury attorney in Illinois for assistance.
